Welcome to Blackdown Class

Welcome to Blackdown class! We are Reception/Year 1.

Our class teacher is Miss Hudson and our class teaching assistant is Miss Clarke. Our 1:1 teaching assistant is Miss Gillott.

This term we will be learning about Japan. We will be learning about Japanese culture, art, food and geography. We will be making flags and learning the skill of sewing. We will be creating sculptures of Japanese cherry blossom and learning how to use paper mache to make a model of Tokyo, the capital city of Japan.

We are inviting parents and grown-ups to a ‘ Japan Tourist Information Centre’ on Thursday 10th May at 2.30pm. This will be a showcase of everything we have learned about Japan and how it compares with the UK. We will begin our event in the hall where grown-ups can enjoy teas, coffees and refreshments and perhaps can give some Japanese treats a try.

A ‘tour guide’ will escort adults down to the classroom where the learning adventure continues!

We will finish with a short Japanese song performance in the hall just before the end of the school day. We ask that you collect your child from the playground as normal after the children perform, so we can get them ready with coats, book bags etc.

In the first half of the Spring term we were learning about instructions. We found out what was special about instructions: they have numbered steps, have pictures or diagrams and use 'bossy' verbs that make it clear what to do. We had a go at following some instructions on how to make a shoe shape and then used what we knew about making a jam sandwich to write our own instructions.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school everyone, we hope you had a lovely Christmas break.

This term we will be learning about:

Toys - how have toys changed over time?

Materials - uses and properties of materials and learning how things are made

Food and Farming - where does food come from?

From 1st May 2018, West Buckland Primary School is proud to be a member of the Richard Huish Trust.
