School Ethos and Values

At West Buckland Primary School we have the highest of expectations of all our children and of ourselves.

The adults in school, through teamwork with parents, guide and teach children to grow academically, emotionally and socially. We believe that children learn by the examples that we set them.

We encourage them to discover their unique talents and abilities and to know that everyone is able to succeed, even when things seem difficult, by working hard and persevering.

We help them to develop an enduring love of learning which will stay with them throughout their lives and we give them the skills, knowledge and understanding to take that learning to as far as their ambition takes them and beyond.

We teach children the importance of consideration for others, good manners, truthfulness and that to do the right thing in life is not necessarily to do the easy thing.

We encourage them to think for themselves, to take responsibility for their own actions and to be mindful of the needs of others.

Year 6 children leaving our school have grown into decent young people who are able to move forward with confidence in their own lives and make an active contribution to the diverse society in which we live. We are immensely proud of them.
