Whole school D&T task

Design and make your own super-crown (or hat) for the Queen. Your crown/hat should have features that reflect Britain. We would like you to make it as ‘quintessentially British’ as you can. Possible ideas might include: making a cup of tea; the weather; fish & chips; queuing. You could add labels, pictures, both; the choice is yours.

Be creative…

Some simple crown making idea links are below.

Please send your completed crowns/hats as photos to your class email address.

Have fun.

Look Who's Talking!

Olly and Cerys performed brilliantly in the Look Who's Talking competition on the 13th February. They both delivered their poems with confident performances and then backed these up with fine presentations about their future. Olly scooped the Year 3/4 prize and then brilliantly went on to become the overall champion for this year. A fabulous effort. Olly is our third overall winner in the five years that the competition has been running and our second pupil to claim the overall prize whilst being in the younger age category.  Everyone at West Buckland is very proud of you both.

Drama club fun recreating scenes from ‘The Mousehole Cat’.

Christmas lunch: The whole school sat down to enjoy their Christmas lunch. The older children were on hand to help the younger children cut up their food while the staff provided waiter service.

Wells Cathedral Christmas Celebration Concert: An awe inspiring and historic venue for some amazing singing by our KS 2 children.

Christmas Fair: A massive thank you for all your support at this year's Christmas Fair, including all your generous donations and the amazing baked goods entered in to our 'Bake Off' style competition!

Vocabulary Day

Children (and staff) from eight schools: Rockwell Green, Wellesley Park, Beech Grove, Sampford Arundel, West Buckland, St John's, Langford Budville and Stawley all found a new word and then dressed up as the word for a hugely successful Vocabulary Day.

Last year, all Somerset schools were given a copy of The Lost Words by Jackie Morris. A spell book that highlighted the words that have been removed from the Oxford English dictionary. Each school, as part of Vocabulary Day, created their own new book called 'The Found Words'. Work from the day, photographs, definitions of the words and the use of the words in context were included in the books so that they can be used in each Wellington cluster school within future lessons.

The children thought carefully to come up with a huge variety of vocabulary and they enjoyed sharing their words and costumes with each other, both in class and as parades for parents. Lessons throughout the day included lots of vocabulary games and 'playing' with words. Scrabble tile cookies were made in vocabulary inspired cookery lessons and dictionaries and thesauruses were used to help create acrostic poetry. The Word Warlock even made an appearance to collect quality vocabulary to place in his cauldron for a vocabulary potion.

KS2 Singing Performance at Court Fields School - 9.7.19

The children performed two songs as a school and then came together for the massed choir items with all the other schools. They sang beautifully and should all be really proud of their performance. Well done everyone for representing the school so brilliantly.

KS2 music performance. Children in Wyvern and Phoenix classes performed a music concert for family and friends. The audience was entertained with brass music from the individual classes, a couple of recorder pieces from a group of year 5 girls, followed by a couple of songs sang by all the children. Notice the range of different brass instruments being played.

Eight athletes from Phoenix class finished in a brilliant 10th place at the annual Quad Kids athletics competition on Thursday 6th June. They completed a sprint, 400m run, howler throw and a standing long jump. A fantastic achievement against 27 other local schools.

On the same afternoon, eight Wyvern children also competed and achieved a 13th placed finish against 28 schools. The events were the same except a longer 600m run is included for the older children.
