Sportshall Athletics - Small Schools - County BRONZE medalists 2020

Magnificently our indoor athletics squad finished in bronze medal position for small schools in the whole of Somerset. Competing in a variety of track and field events they ran, jumped and threw with commitment and skill in the county finals held at Court Fields School. We finished with 208 points, 26 points ahead of our closest rivals and only 12 points behind the silver medalists Enmore (Sedgemoor). All of our athletes should be hugely proud of themselves.

SQUAD: Ellie, Orla, Maisie, Ida, Ruby, Cerys, Milo, Alfie, Max, Aiden, Owen and Harry.

Netball Friendly Competition 12.2.20

For the first time in a good few years West Buckland have competed in an inter-school netball friendly competition. Pleasingly we emerged from our 3 matches undefeated. Following on from our strong performance in the basketball competition last week the team made steady progress over the afternoon's games. Special mention for Ava who represented the school for the very first time.

Basketball Friendly Competition 6.2.20

West Buckland participated in their first ever inter-school basketball event on Thursday afternoon at Heathfield School. Fresh from their Wednesday night training in Mr Bate's after-school club they enjoyed 4 fast-paced matches. Pleasingly all of the children played really well and adapted quickly to their new environment, where they got the chance to use a backboard for the first time! A special mention for Douglas and Archie who represented the school for the first time and to Millie for her fantastic winning shot against Cheddon!

Handball Tournament 25.11.19

Our first foray into handball this year was an experimental one. Mrs Hudson-Pike taking charge of the team and coaching from the sidelines freshened things up a little. Some good team play throughout and some explosive finishing meant we more than held our own in the 4 matches that we played. Lots of things still to work on though, which we will hopefully get the chance to do in the new year.

Squad: James, Alfy, Millie, Ellie, Reuben, Max, Alex and Owen.

Dodgeball Tournamant 6.11.19

Our second inter-school 'dodgeball' tournament of the year at Blackbrook Leisure Centre showed how important competitive matches are in terms of developing your skills in a sport. Once again we had two squads competing in 5 matches each, against other local schools. As this was a 'can do' tournament no scores were recorded, but both teams clearly showed that they had learnt from the first event and approached the games with a greater tactical awareness and improved teamwork. The sporting value of 'honesty' was once again prevelent: Ellie ran the length of the pitch to tell an opponent that they were not out when they thought they were. Well done to Millie and Isaac for participating for the first time.

SQUAD A: Alfy, Millie, Elliott, Eliot & Max.

SQUAD B: Owen, Ellie, Isaac, Ollie, Matthew & Harry.

Please visit your child's class page regularly while the school is closed for information to support their learning at home.
