Relationships & Sex Education

As per our policy, you have the right to withdraw your child(ren) from the ‘sex education’ part of our RSE programme. Parents/carers do not have the right to withdraw their child from Relationships and Health Education, nor from the Science National Curriculum. The National Curriculum for Science includes subject content in related areas such as the main external body parts, the human body as it grows from birth to old age (including puberty) and reproduction in some plants and animals.

We will use the 1Decison programme to deliver the content. The children are used to using this scheme for their weekly PSHE lessons. Children in Key Stage One will cover bullying, friendships, body language and touch. Children in Lower Key Stage Two will cover relationships and appropriate touch, and children in Upper Key Stage Two will cover puberty and conception. There will also be cross-curricular links to other subject areas such as animal life cycles, plant life cycles, reproduction and evolution in Science, and feelings & emotions, differing views, keeping healthy, staying safe and breaking down barriers in through weekly PSHE sessions.

We will deliver this content to the year group as a whole, ensuring male and female staff are present. Children will be given the opportunity to ask questions using an anonymous questions box. Children will also have the option of asking questions to either a male or female member of staff should they choose.

Upon request we would be happy to share with you the relevant animations and resources and answers any questions you may have. If you wish to withdraw your child from the sex education element of their PSHE / RSE learning, please email the school office.
